Kingston Springs victims of Dutchman's Curve Train Wreck, July 9th 1918On May 21, 2007, the Metro Historical Commission approved the placement of a Metro Historical Marker near the Old White Bridge in Nashville, commemorating the worst rail disaster in U. S. history. The collision known as the Wreck at Dutchman's Curve took the lives of many local residents. Betsy Thorpe of Jam Tart Productions is planning an unveiling ceremony scheduled for July 9, 2008. (The 90 year anniversary). Ms Thorpe plans to invite family members of witnesses, rescue workers, survivors and victims to the ceremony. An extended Kingston Springs family suffered a great loss that day. J B Murphy age 26, Ernest C Beck age 22, and Orville M Beck age 20, were cousins and all three died of internal injuries at the crash site and were buried two days later in Kingston Springs. Their parents were respectively Jim Murphy father, Florence Murphy (nee Daniel) mother, Columbus Beck father, Janie Beck (nee Murphy) mother and William Beck father and Isobel Beck (nee Murphy) mother. The staff at Jam Tart productions would like to locate descendants of the Beck and Murphy families. If you have information on these families or anyone else connected to the train wreck at Dutchman's Curve, please contact Betsy Thorpe at (615) 480-4396 or email the staff at Jam Tart Productions Dutchman's Curve website |
